2024 Editor’s Report for the SAMT Conference
The 2024 issue of The South African Music Teacher Magazine offers an engaging and insightful collection of articles, research reports and reflections concerning key aspects of music education, performance, pedagogy and inclusivity. It also features contributions by national and international experts who explore contemporary challenges and advancements in music teaching, ensuring that educators and students alike benefit from structured methodologies, innovative techniques and well-rounded perspectives.
Besides the insightful and thought-provoking articles featured in the magazine, this issue proudly showcases several prestigious music competitions and emphasises opportunities for young musicians to develop and display their talents. This edition also acknowledges excellence in music education through the SASMT Bursaries and Scholarships and the Certificate of Excellence Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to music teaching and performance.
We were honoured to pay tribute to the dedication, passion and legacies of three esteemed figures in the South African music education landscape: Andrew Tracey and Heinrich Armer.
